We’ve been sewing in this classroom since the very beginning. I use to do all of the design work and stitching with the kids and then we discovered Anne Marie and her wonderful design techniques and now we have a professional come in once a week and work one on one with the kids to finish a project of their own design. The kids draw their design, cut it out and use both the sewing machine and hand stitching to complete the projects. So far this year we’ve nearly completed three designs.
Asher and his amazing squid:
Aidan’s blue doll and outfits:
Amalie and her gown:
Amalie was still finishing up the buttons and other flair for her final flourish.

I’ve never thought to bring my sewing machine into school, but that might be because I’m not a particularly accomplished sewer. This post makes me want to sew with kids.
It must be amazing for the children to see their designs come to life right before their very eyes.

Another wonderful idea. You know, sometimes I wish I were a kid in your classroom.

Asher and his squid are hits at the cephalopod-loving people at Pharyngula. More evidence of just how great is this classroom activity.

This is great project, but it also makes me really happy to see Roethke on the chalkboard. What did you do with that poem?

All hail the mighty squid! Asher has just become famous for his mad skillz with a cephalopod.
Cheers from Pharyngula!

This is hysterical-you have to click on Ed Darrell and read all the comments on his blog about this. Michelle’s literary skills boggle my mind always but someone was able to decifer what peom is up on the wall just from the few words you can make out in the picture! -yes it is a whole wall of chalk board paint-not a chalk board!!! Way more useful and accessible 🙂
Just a rich day in the life of the Mystery Bayers……
